The waterfront immediately in front of the town centre is occupied largely by the port: a busy maritime area that includes ferry and commercial activity, fishing boats, Marina El Portet, other recreational moorings and the Real Club N\u00e1utico de D\u00e9nia.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, D\u00e9nia\u2019s two principal town beaches sit on opposite sides of this extensive harbour area. To the south, Marineta Cassiana begins beyond the marina and yacht club, forming the sandy entrance to the Les Rotes coastline. To the north, Punta del Raset begins just beyond Marina El Portet and marks the start of the long sandy beaches of Les Marines. It is the only substantial sandy beach in the Les Rotes area; beyond it, the coastline gradually changes into the flat rocks, small coves and clear-water bathing spots for which Les Rotes is known.<\/p>\n<p>The beach curves gently around a sheltered bay, with the port\u2019s southern breakwater helping to protect it from the open sea. Its water is generally shallow and relatively calm, making it particularly popular with families, younger children, older swimmers and people who prefer relaxed bathing to larger waves. On peaceful mornings, paddleboarders and open-water swimmers often take advantage of the smooth surface.<\/p>\n<p>Marineta Cassiana feels more intimate than D\u00e9nia\u2019s northern beaches. It is not as broad or expansive as Punta del Raset, and its proximity to the marina gives it a distinctly nautical atmosphere. From the sand, visitors can see the masts of the Club N\u00e1utico and boats entering or leaving the port, while D\u00e9nia\u2019s castle and town buildings appear beyond the harbour.<\/p>\n<p>A long promenade follows the back of the beach, making Marineta Cassiana as appealing for walking as it is for swimming. The route continues south towards Les Rotes, passing palm trees, established villas, restaurants and increasingly natural sections of coastline. It is especially pleasant in the early morning or around sunset, when walkers, cyclists and joggers share the waterfront with people stopping simply to look across the bay.<\/p>\n<p>The seabed around Marineta Cassiana also has notable ecological value and forms part of the protected marine environment associated with Cabo de San Antonio. Natural seagrass and other marine vegetation may occasionally wash ashore. Although it can look untidy to visitors expecting a perfectly cleared resort beach, this material is part of the coastal ecosystem rather than ordinary waste. It is the first beach in the Les Marines area and the closest large sandy beach to D\u00e9nia\u2019s historic centre. Visitors can walk to it from the port, Calle Marqu\u00e9s de Campo and the castle area without needing to travel along the coast by car.<\/p>\n<p>Punta del Raset offers a much more spacious and recognisably traditional beach experience than Marineta Cassiana. Its broad expanse of fine sand gives families room to set up umbrellas, children space to play and groups plenty of room for ball games and beach activities. Even though it becomes popular during July and August, its width usually makes it feel less confined than the smaller southern beach.<\/p>\n<p>The landscape is also more open. Rather than sitting inside a compact bay, Punta del Raset faces a wider stretch of the Mediterranean. Conditions can therefore feel slightly livelier and more exposed than at Marineta Cassiana, depending on the wind and direction of the sea. The water generally remains suitable for family bathing, but the experience is closer to that of the long beaches extending north through Les Marines.<\/p>\n<p>One of Punta del Raset\u2019s defining features is its protected dune environment. Low dunes and native coastal vegetation separate parts of the beach from the nearby roads and buildings, giving this urban beach a surprisingly natural character. Visitors should use the designated paths and avoid walking through the dunes, as they support protected flora and fauna.<\/p>\n<p>Punta del Raset also has a more energetic atmosphere. Depending on the season, visitors may find beach volleyball, children\u2019s activities, water-based attractions and beach bars nearby. Its closeness to the town centre makes it particularly convenient for combining a morning on the sand with lunch around the port, a visit to the castle or an evening in central D\u00e9nia. It is the better choice for a peaceful swim, paddleboarding or a walk that continues along D\u00e9nia\u2019s rocky southern coastline.<\/p>\n<p>Choose Punta del Raset for a wider sandy beach, more room to spread out, protected dunes and the feeling of a classic Mediterranean beach day. Its position beside the town and Marina El Portet makes it particularly practical for visitors staying in central D\u00e9nia.<\/p>\n<p>The port may prevent D\u00e9nia from having one uninterrupted beach directly in front of the city centre, but it also gives the town much of its distinctive maritime character.
